Mirthless To Donate 100% Of This Week’s Bandcamp Proceeds To Fire Victims

The Malaysian underground music scene has always been a space for resistance, community, and raw, unfiltered expression. Now, one of its fiercest black metal bands, Mirthless, is using their platform for something beyond sonic chaos—they’re (once again) stepping up when it counts.

In response to the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion on 1 April, which displaced over 500 people, injured 145, and reduced 237 homes to rubble, Mirthless has announced that 100% of their Bandcamp proceeds from 3–10 April will go toward grassroots relief efforts aiding affected families. The catastrophe, which struck during Eid week, has left many victims stranded in halls and tents, struggling with uncertainty about their future.

That’s the message Mirthless is pushing. They’re not here to play saviour or sugarcoat suffering—they recognise the power they hold within the underground community, and they’re wielding it to make a difference.

Through sales of Solitary Confinement Tapes and Scorn, Mirthless aims to raise as much as possible, ensuring the money reaches those who need it most. To maintain transparency, they’ve also committed to publishing their sales record and donation receipt once the campaign ends.

This move is a reminder that underground music isn’t just about rebellion—it’s about mutual aid. In a world where corporations and governments often drag their feet in the wake of disaster, it’s the punks, the metalheads, and the DIY communities that show up first.

“The fire in Putra Heights is gone. But rebuilding lives takes longer. Show that our scene has heart, that we’re part of the same world as the people living next door to the fire.”
