A military officer, allegedly driving against the flow of traffic, has killed a 22-year-old Bangladeshi tourist and injured his wife not long after they left KLIA in an e-hailing vehicle.

The soldier had reportedly been driving under the influence of alcohol when he entered the opposite lane on Maju Expressway (MEX) and caused the fatal head-on collision.

The Bangladeshi couple were here on holiday

The deceased was sat in the middle row of the MPV the couple were travelling in when the tragic crash occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife survived the crash and is receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), with the 41-year-old driver of the e-hailing vehicle also sustaining head injuries.

The 31-year-old suspect’s alcohol level was well above the legal limit, according to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa.

“Preliminary investigations found that the car driven by the suspect is believed to have entered the opposite lane before colliding head-on with an e-hailing MPV,” he said.

He’s since been arrested, with the case being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and causing the death and injury of people.
