Mark Wahlberg Spotted in Penang for ‘The Big Fix’ Film Shoot

American actor Mark Wahlberg has been spotted in Penang shooting the upcoming film, The Big Fix, according to several videos making their rounds on social media.

According to Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, shooting began on Friday, 10 July, with the multi-hyphenate scheduled to be in the country for roughly two weeks, shooting various scenes in different parts of the state.

Will Malaysia’s beloved Perodua Kelisa make a cameo in the film?

In one video showing Wahlberg at the film set in Lebuh Melayu, George Town, the actor is seen stepping out of a Perodua Kelisa before the scene seemingly cuts. You then see a bunch of production crew walking about, looking very busy.

The street is visibly cordoned off with yellow tape, and a big sign is seen at the street entrance, warning onlookers of a shoot taking place up ahead.

Netizens in the comments section were quick to poke fun about a potential Transformers film, pointing out the presence of the Kelisa and jokingly questioning what it would transform into.

“New Transformer[s] movie? I want to see what Transformer the Kelisa will transform to,” commented one netizen. Another netizen quipped that we might soon see a Perodua Kelisa put up for sale, with one of its unique selling points being the fact that Mark Wahlberg sat in it.

But of course, as confirmed by Penang officials, the actual movie being shot is The Big Fix, which centres around former Interpol agent, Chris Eaton (Wahlberg), who’s now working with FIFA to investigate a global match-fixing syndicate.

It’s a high-stakes thriller that also stars British actor Riz Ahmed, along with Chin Han (Singapore), Vipin Sharma (India), and even US-based Malaysian actress, Nuha Jes Izman.

The film is based on a true story, and is largely inspired by an exposé by ESPN writer Brett Forrest, which dives into the dark underbelly of one of football’s most controversial scandals involving a criminal match fixer.
