mall-ing in love…
Recently, I got into a very enlightening conversation on Malaysian lifestyle habits, and one thing that kept cropping up were shopping malls.
The average urban Malaysian frequents the mall, well… frequently. The multi purpose mall caters to a wide range of needs – cinemas, supermarkets, retail shops, food courts and other distractions all in air-conditioned comfort – so much so that you can spend an entire day within a mall without venturing outside or elsewhere. Families, couples, friends, and loners alike come to the mall for all sorts of reasons.
And although I’m just as enamoured by the convenience of a mall, I also bemoan it. There are plenty of things to do outside a mall, like art galleries and museums to visit and parks and beaches to enjoy. We at JUICE are constantly finding new things happening all the time.
But it does beg the question, is it feasible or even desirable to stay away from a mall? We’d like to try that out one day, but unfortunately we’re in Midvalley City and the call of the mall is too strong to resist…
