#MakeSchoolASaferPlace: Ain Husniza Chosen to Speak About Children’s Rights at Unicef Conference
Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam has been selected to speak about children rights in Malaysia on a panel alongside Najat Maalla M’jid, the United Nations’ special representative of the secretary-general.
Titled “INSPIRE: Ending Violence Against Children During Covid-19 and Beyond”, the Unicef programme is scheduled to be aired online on 1-5 Nov, while Ain Husniza will be speaking two days earlier on 30 Oct.
As reported by The Vibes, she is also one of just seven people from the region invited to talk at the session.
“During the discussion, Ain will offer insights and suggestions on the current situation of children’s rights in Malaysia, especially as it relates to access to quality education, improving safety in schools, mental well-being, policy, and more,” Saiful Nizam, Ain’s father said through a Facebook post.
This doesn’t come as a surprise as Ain’s selection stems from her efforts in spearheading the #MakeSchoolASaferPlace social media movement.
It all started when she posted a video on TikTok, voicing out her discomfort when her male teacher allegedly joked about rape during class, which went viral.
Since then, it has induced her to start a movement on social media, which advocates making schools a safer learning space and encourages other students to come forward with unpleasant experiences they have gone through in school.
All we have to say is congratulations to Ain, and we wish her the best at the conference!
