Lumi News, Malaysia’s go-to news aggregator, just landed a big feature on the App Store.

The timing couldn’t be better, with the recognition rolling in right as the country celebrates National Day.

The app, which brings together stories from more than 100 publishers including NST, FMT, Astro Awani, TV3, Berita Harian, SAYS, and Malay Mail, now sits alongside some of the most essential news apps globally. Apple’s editorial team handpicks these features, spotlighting apps that stand out in design, innovation, and relevance to local communities.

For Lumi News, the milestone doubles as proof that a homegrown app can compete with international names, while continuing to serve over 333,000 Malaysians every month who rely on it for a smoother, more personalised news-reading experience.

Since launching in 2021, Lumi News has consistently ranked at the top of Malaysia’s news app charts. Readers log on for features like AI-powered daily news summaries, ad-free Reader Mode, curated trending stacks, Bionic Reading for sharper focus, and the playful yet educational Parliament Playground.

Now, the team is testing something new.

Lumi AI, currently in beta, is designed to make news easier to digest. Powered by Google Gemini, it can pick out trending stories, add extra context to help readers understand the bigger picture, and break down key details using the who-what-where-when-why-how method.

It also generates smart prompts and quick takeaways, making it easier to keep up without getting lost in information overload.
