The beat scene in LA is riped with talented producers who are evolving (and have evolved beyond) hip hop beats. This 27 July, KLites can marvel at a piece of the scene with the arrival of beat meister Unconventional Science at KL’s dopest live hip hop night Raising the Bar.
Unconventional Science describes his music as – like his namesake suggests – out of the ordinary yet still more than capable of moving bodies on the dancefloor. Treating music with the empirical precision of science, Unconventional Science has endeavoured musically on a variety of scenes. As he says, “from backpacker nerd to pseudo-hipster DJ, I have learned quite a bit of range.” Just from looking at some of the names he has worked with – Aesop Rock, Sole, Dam Funk, and Peanut Butter Wolf – you can tell that this is someone who has built quite the rep.
The 8th in the series, Raising The Bar: KL Meets LA will also see performances by the sociopolitically conscious Figure of Speech, a youthful stunner (???) who goes by the name Young Stunna, a collaboration between Zhariff and reggae rising star Salam, and undisputed beatbox champ Shazet. DJ Mastermind will be on the 1s and 2s while Mr. Dan and Jin Hackman host.
The ever swaggadocious LANSI brand will also be selling their first collection of tees, priced at RM45 and RM55, at the door.
Raising The Bar 8: KL Meets LA is happening on 27 July at Artista Bar, Tropicana Mall. For more info on the event, click here.
