French Producer Kavinsky Found Dead in Paris Home at Age 50

French producer and DJ, Kavinsky, was found dead in his Paris home yesterday, 29 July, after complaining of headaches for several days.

The 50-year-old electro-house musician, real name Vincent Belorgey, is suspected to have suffered a fatal stroke, according to French authorities.

Paris prosecutors have opened an investigation to determine his cause of death

Born on the outskirts of Paris, Belorgey started off his career in the early 2000s, being the opening act for French electro icons Daft Punk.

But his biggest break in recent memory came in the form of ‘Nightcall’, which dominated radiowaves after it was used as the soundtrack for Drive, starring Ryan Gosling.

The song propelled his career to new heights and cemented his red-eyed zombie DJ alter ego as one of the most unique personas in electronic music.

The track was co-produced with Daft Punk member Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, and features a haunting soundscape that toes a balance between a nocturnal prowl and elements of mystery/romance. It’s something you would quite literally listen to while out on a night drive.

That made it the perfect choice for the opening credits of Drive, which explores the conflicting duality of a nameless mechanic (Gosling) who’s extremely gentle with his neighbour and her son, while also moonlighting as a getaway driver for criminals.

The song has over half a billion streams on Spotify, with another 350 million on YouTube.
