We all get a little stressed out during the holiday season, and sometimes we just need a drink at the end of the day… or two… or let’s face it, five.

This Christmas season, JUICE has partnered with Pernod Ricard Malaysia to bring you five boozy drinks with localised twists so that everyone can recreate them in their own kitchens after a long day of shopping for the perfect Christmas presents.

Without further ado, here are our concoctions…

1. Bloody Mariah

This drink was inspired by the one and only Mariah Carey and how her songs haunt the halls of every shopping mall come November 1st.

The flavours of rose syrup coupled with two shots of refreshing Beefeater 24 gin are reminiscent of an adult version of the infamous sirap bandung, known to any local who is familiar with the lepak kat mamak culture. This drink is sure to tickle some sweet tooths out there.

Recipe:

  • 2 shots of Beefeater 24
  • 2 shots of rose syrup
  • 3 shots of tonic water
  • Lime extract/lime juice
  • Mint leaves

In true Mariah fashion, this one’s for all the skinny legends out there.

2. Absolut-ly Currant

Don’t you wish you had a time machine so you could go back to simpler times when you were receiving more gifts than you were giving? I’ll do you one better, how about a nostalgic drink with all the adult perks in them?

Combining the smooth flavours of luxury vodka Absolut Elyx with some tropical tones from the pineapple juice and Ribena, this fruity cocktail transports you back in time to your childhood memories.

Recipe:

  • 2 shots of Absolut Elyx
  • 1 shot of Ribena
  • 2 shots of tonic water
  • 1 shot of pineapple juice

3. Ferringhi Fling

This drink was specifically designed to remind you of Penang cendol, or the grinch if Christmas isn’t really your thing. Be that as it may, this thirst-quenching beverage would transport you to an island getaway.

The sweet flavours from the coconut and smokey tones of Havana Club 7 rum combine to make a creamy cocktail with a tinge of warmth that hits you in the aftertaste.

Recipe:

  • 2 shots Havana Club 7
  • 5 shots of coconut water
  • 1/2 shot of coconut cream
  • 1/2 shot of gula melaka
  • Green food colouring
  • Coconut flakes

4. Jameson Boi

If you’re a fan of sour drinks, this one’s for you. The Jameson Boi is just what you need to wake you up from the holiday daze, having to sit through meals with family members. Forget coffee, this is where it’s at.

The intense flavours of asam boi, or sour plums, in this recipe balances out nicely with Jameson Black Barrel whiskey to neutralise the drink and deliver a fresh cocktail to keep you extra festive.

Recipe:

  • 2 shots of Jameson Black Barrel
  • 1 shot of JUICE’d calamansi
  • 1 shot of sugar syrup
  • Salt
  • Asam boi

Psst, this one’s my personal favourite.

5. Sweet Chivas Of Mine

Picture this. You’re approaching the end of the night while vibing out to Sweet Child Of Mine playing over the sound system. A glass of whiskey with a sweet twist hits all the right spots to end off the night on a good note.

A glass of whiskey is one of, if not the most, classic drinks out there. Chivas Regal XV pairs perfectly with the zesty orange cordial and tonic water to present you a sweet cocktail to mellow out the hectic festivities.

Recipe:

  • 2 shots of Chivas Regal XV
  • 1 shot of gula melaka
  • 1/2 shot of orange cordial
  • 3 shots of tonic water
  • Orange peel
