It’s the End of the World as We Know It, and We Feel Fine: Part IV

If you’re wont to believe in Mayan bullcrap, 2012 will be the last year terra firma stands firm. JUICE seeks the help of saged scenesters to give us a look into the crystal ball for a much needed insight into what will happen in the year 2012, hoping to gain some foresight of what will end in the year (if not the world). Rather, some tell us of their predictions, others of what they want to happen, and some offer fantasy scenarios. We’re not complaining, it’s better than watching John Cusack in 2012 the movie again…

Something tells me I should be nervous. Somehow I feel that by writing this piece, I play a decisive role at a critical moment. Imagine myself, in my surgeon outfit, looking very serious, about to perform a surgery on a newborn.

I was given an assignment to come up with, what I think will cease to exist in 2012. After days of sitting alone and wondering what it would be like to be Joan Rivers, I had an epiphany and it goes something like this:

In music, recycling the aesthetics of the past is nothing new. But that doesn’t give anybody the right to butcher the sanctity of bossanova. Improvisation is a noble thing to do, especially when you’re trying to save a chart topping hit from being jaded, however, the depth and also the sweetness of bossanova should not be compromised.  I hereby, would like to state that any bossanova rendition of top 40 hits will end in 2012. If it doesn’t, you should listen to some Antonio Carlos Jobim.

I know I’m not alone in this, and I don’t mind you calling me “aunty” after this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a firm believer in individualism, however, to a certain extend whatever you do will affect others. So if you’re thinking of going to the salon to get that Skrillex hair do? Think again. The trend is gonna decompose in a bit. And by that, I mean 2012. Why? It’s just painful to look at.

In the name of Gil Scott Heron, Heavy D, Nate Dogg, Nick Ashford,Amy Winehouse and DJ Mehdi. I pray that 2012 will be a good year to all of us.
