Infamous Papagomo Chosen as UMNO Youth Exco.. Here’s How Netizens Reacted

Blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who vacillates between his Papagomo and Sir Azri online personas is one of 20 candidates that were chosen in the UMNO Youth Exco line-up for the 2018 to 2021 term.

According to various media reports, the 35 year-old was elected out of 183 candidates that contested for the executive councillor posts. Papagomo is known for being controversial as his “fame” started in 2013 where he blogged an article slandering PKR’s del facto leader, DS Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar filed for damages and won the defamation suit in 2014.

Another worrying case was when Papagomo was fined in 2016 after he pleaded guilty to three counts of assaulting a foreign worker. Not to mention all the other scandalous cases that he got tangled into (hint: Nur Sajat).

Papagomo, who was an UMNO committee member for the Wangsa Maju branch from 2013 to 2018, wrote in a statement published on his Facebook page that he is thankful for the win.

He continued by saying that he wants to forget his past and have a new beginning as he stressed that everyone would have past wrongs, citing Tun Dr Mahathir and Anwar as examples.

“I do not wish to look to the past. Instead, I want to look forward and continue to improve the situation for the better. May Allah forgive my past sins,” he said.

Since then, Papagomo has thanked UMNO delegates for entrusting him to carry out the responsibilities of a leader in the exco.

Although it was a big win for him, some netizens were shocked with the results. Take a look at some of their reactions to Papagomo’s win:

A little post-thought for this story… Five years ago, Rembau MP/Black Panther fan, Khairy Jamaluddin said this about the UMNO Youth Exco positions:

Ahh… the glory days…^

So what do you think of this win? Should we give him a chance or is this another step backwards for the former-ruling party that wants to fight for “agama, bangsa dan negara” (religion, race and country)?
