New IKEA Plushies Bring the Savannah Home & Support Classrooms in Need

Malaysians can finally bring the African savannah back home with them… in the form of soft and squishy plushies from IKEA Malaysia’s new SANDLÖPARE children’s collection.

Designed in collboration with Swedish wildlife conservation centre, Nordens Ark, the range blends imagination and play while hinting at wildlife awareness.

But there’s an even bigger reason to bring one of these plushies home with you: every toy sold helps support education in high-need schools across the nation.

The SANDLÖPARE lineup transforms everyday spaces into playgrounds of imagination. Kids can perch on stools that double as zebras, slip on a cheetah bathrobe, turn their bedroom into a full-on campsite, and much more.

“Play is how children make sense of the world, and the world of endangered wildlife is real. It could use a little help with a future generation that is aware and caring of their magnificence and how to protect them,” said Takeshi Murai, Store Manager, IKEA Klang Valley.

“While we can’t bring every child to the savannah, SANDLÖPARE brings that world to their homes. At IKEA, we want every child to feel that sense of wonder, imagination and possibility, no matter where they come from.”

A soft toy purchase that gives back

But as we mentioned earlier, this collection has a bit more meaning.

IKEA Malaysia is partnering with Teach For Malaysia (TFM) for a campaign running until 27 December 2025. For every soft toy purchased, whether from SANDLÖPARE or any of IKEA’s other beloved plush lines, the company will donate RM1 to TFM’s Fellowship Programme.

Everything from the iconic FABLER BJÖRN teddy bear to the KRAMIG panda, the ever-memed BLÅHAJ shark, and the BLÅVINGAD ocean animals will contribute to a nationanwide effort to strengthen access to education.

All funds raised will support TFM’s two-year Fellowship Programme, which places outstanding graduates and young professionals in underserved schools across the country.

But they won’t just teach. They’ll work closely with communities to develop leadership, expand access to quality education, and create meaningful opportunities for students who need them the most.

“This initiative with IKEA Malaysia allows us to deepen our work in communities that need it most,” said Fam Li Ying, Director of Growth in Teach For Malaysia.

“By supporting the Fellowship Programme, they are investing in future leaders who are committed to transforming classrooms and championing every child’s right to learn, explore, and fulfil their potential.”

Bringing the savannah to life in-store

To celebrate the launch of the SANDLÖPARE collection, IKEA has rolled out the SANDLÖPARE Safari, a series of family-friendly activities across all stores until 7 December 2025.

Expect safari train rides at IKEA Damansara and Cheras, along with activity points nationwide, including a Savannah Colouring Corner, a Soft Toys Storage Workshop, a Spot & Roar station, and a keychain workshop exclusively for IKEA Family members who purchase at least one soft toy.
