IDEALISTIC INTENTIONS: A Compelling Malaya Breed
Mohd Faizul bin Isa, or simply Joe, is the man behind Malaya Breed. His work is a potent mix of religion, music, cult worship, and politics, but with spirituality being the root of it all. It’s been two years since he’s been earning a living as an artist — coming from a poor family has pushed him to becoming creative. The university dropout has a cerebral approach to his work, as he theorises that his art is a bridge between reality and other dimensions, and he hopes to bridge the gap between the perceptions of audience with his art. He makes it clear that he did not become an artist for fame or money, neither is he gripped by perfection – he just wants to further improve his craft. He shares a mantra that’s engraved on his studio wall, “Seni itu memang tiada batas, conteng apa sahaja idea, cuma jangan conteng arang di muka sendiri (Truly there’s no boundary in art, scribble whatever idea as long as you don’t shame yourself).” Additionally, Joe’s Project Jahat is the umbrella term for all his collaborative projects. He is working with his “geng jahat” which currently comprises of Subang-based clothing label Nerd Unit and HZ Skateboard.
