Heineken Progressive Tour x JUICE Chat: KBnL Dancefloor Hell
Describe yourself to us.
Kev Hahahahaha… Here we go!
Loong According to you guys we’re “vague”, and I think that describes us pretty well!
Yi Okay, okay, okay… Think it’s time to set the record straight! We’re just 3 guys who gave up on the clubbing scene (or lack thereof) in JB. Then we went to our friends’ monthly gig at Bar Amber, Hartamas and thought to ourselves “these guys are on to something, let’s do that in JB too”. Hence we’ve been having parties ever since and our friends have become what most people know as TAG…
You guys seem pretty out there, what’s the craziest thing we can do in Johor Bahru? Recommend us something only a local would know about.
K Us? Out there? I think we’re pretty normal…
Y Plenty!!! But crazy things that only locals know are known to locals only for a reason and most of those I can think of are illegal… so… come to our parties and we’ll clue you in personally.
L Or you could come hang out at Eats & Beats, which is sort of like our official headquarters, and play mah-jong!
How’s the club culture in JB now?
K It’s sh!t! But thankfully we have JUICE and Heineken who are willing to take a chance by doing something about it. Oh, there are a handful of people trying to make things happen. Respect to these guys…
Y Closest thing I can equate it to is like KL in the ‘90s… not the same but similar. Not so much a clubbing culture but more a drinking culture in environments akin to a club. Though it has been waning, Feng tau and butterfly girly pubs are still quite popular. However, indie gigs happen all the time everywhere… just not in JB’s usual ‘clubs’.
L Yeah… Otherwise it’s papaya farms
Y Hahahahhaha, I like papayas!
What can we expect from your set this coming Heineken Progressive Tour?
Y Not sure… even I don’t know yet.
K Pawrer sh!t!
L “Pawrer” is a term coined by our second favourite DJ – DJ Bunga. It means “power” but Bunga can’t spell very well.
Y In all seriousness, just good music you can bop your head to… Some nu disco, indie, electro rock…
What’s your idea of progression?
K Wah… Hokkien people say, “Sibeh profound!”
L That’s tough to answer. I guess people just need to be more open-minded, chill out and enjoy the music, even though it may not be Flo Rida or Maroon 5.
Y Change… hopefully for the better!
What do you think of the new Heineken bottle?
L It’s a veritable art form!
K Sexy…. Can I take her home?
Y WAHLANEH! WA KA LU KONG!
