How’s the club culture in Penang now?
Club culture in Penang is the same from the last fifteen years. Radio friendly hits playing in the clubs, commercial tunes rule the scene but we have seen individuals and groups creating “alternative clubbing” nights that push new sounds and new concepts for partying. People like the Ze Arcade Paint crew give a breath of fresh air to the Penang clubbing scene.
What will Deer Society be bringing to Heineken Progressive Tour? What can we expect?
We’ll be bringing our house party style on the road! Just like our weekly gigs at Daikanyama, you can expect us to drop a blend of nu disco, indie dance, and every other genre you can think of.
What’s your idea of progression?
Progression is the improvement of the familiar. Small improvements to things that you already know and love.
You guys are the go-to guys for club nights with hip young KLites. What do you think makes Deer Society so relevant with the young crowd?
We’re just like everyone else and try to keep it that way. Anyone can still walk up to us at the console and share a drink, even in the middle of a banging party, and that’s just how we like it.. We started by throwing parties that we and our friends would enjoy and our main goal is to always have a good time with anyone who wants to share that with us.
What do you think of the new Heineken bottle?
We think it’s rad! A little change is good for everyone.
