Cast Of ‘Harry Potter’ Reunites For 20th Anniversary Of First Movie In Emotional TV Special
Fancy a trip down memory lane? The cast and crew of one of the biggest movie franchises of all time are set to return, so dust off your Cloak of Invisibility and broomsticks, for this one is not to be missed!
Dubbed Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, the one-off special sees mainstays Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) return to the set where it all began, and reminisce about the early heydays.
“It feels like no time has passed — and loads of time has passed,” said an emotional Daniel in the trailer.
The special commemorates the release of the first film in the franchise – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) – and marks the first time in almost a decade since their last ensemble appearance together.
“Some of us haven’t seen each other for years. So it’s just been a joy. An unexpected joy,” said Emma per Reuters.
Other regulars include Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid), Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), just to name a few.
Also returning are directors Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates, however one notable absence is the creator herself JK Rowling.
According to Variety, the novelist-turned-showrunner was not included after transphobic comments she made in the preceding years, leaving her only appearances in the special being brief archival footage from when the films were being made.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will be available to stream 1 January exclusively on HBO GO in Malaysia.
