Earlier this month, many Malaysians were shocked to see an increase in their electricity bills. Netizens flocked to social media with numerous complaints and criticism to Tenaga Nasional Bhd(TNB) about their latest bills, noting that it was double or triple their usual amount.

Well, TNB has joined hands with the government to announce the ‘Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik’ to reduce the financial burden, on top of the existing discounts announced during the economic stimulus package.

According to The Star, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said that this would mean four million domestic consumers with electricity consumption of 300kWh and below per month will have free electricity for April, May, and June this year.

Meanwhile, domestic consumers with electricity consumption of more than 300kWh per month would get a discount of RM77 per month over the same period.

This was introduced on top of the on-going electricity discount introduced since April and will be reflected in consumers’ bills for July.

This initiative will give an additional RM942mil in discounts and rebates for electricity bills for domestic users across the country. It will also benefit 7.66 million consumers in the domestic or residential category in Peninsular Malaysia.

In addition, TNB also agreed to halt all electricity disconnection activity until 30 Sept 2020.
