Subverting Changkat
Nestled in the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur, Feeka Coffee Roasters comes as a surprising treat for many that roam the streets of Changkat Bukit Bintang expecting the decadence of nightlife, instead here is a venue that serves a good cup of coffee and decent meal. From the people that brought you Food Foundry and Butter + Beans, Feeka is designed with the idea of an oasis for the city dwellers to take a break from all the noise and mayhem of that area. It injects fresh air into the area of Changkat with its minimal and “less is more” philosophy of its establishment and food.

“We feel there is no decent coffee in the area and we want to change the perception that the area is only visited at night!” says Alex co-owner of Feeka, which is true (have you tried going to Changkat at the day time? It’s freaking dead). Not just everybody that goes to the city wants to drink and party, but to chill and enjoy as time passes by. Even the foreigners and tourist that visit are just looking for a decent place to sit down and catch a breath of air. Feeka rightly addresses this with its offering of all day breakfasts, sandwiches, pastries, unique cakes (think coconut cheese cakes, olive carrot cake or lemon poppy seed), and pasta where everything is made in house to maintain its freshness.

The interior of the place sports a rustic minimal look with its bare walls, naked light bulbs, and simplistic furniture. Hanging plants and a comfortable couch adds a touch of interesting green to the otherwise earthy palette of grey, brown, and white shades within the shop.

What does the future holds for the interesting establishment? Alex says that Feeka plans to collaborate with different groups of people as well as starting their coffee workshops. Plans to have photography and art exhibitions are also in their list to do as Feeka sports a good space upstairs that’s perfect for exhibitions, and maybe even showcases.
