Elon Musk Announces $8 Charge For Twitter Users Who Want A Verified Tick
Elon Musk has just announced that Twitter will begin charging $8 (RM37.93) a month to users seeking a verified account with a blue tick by their names.
This happened just a day after Musk became sole director of Twitter and fired the whole board of directors once his US$44 billion (RM208.23 billion) takeover of the social media platform was finalised.
In a statement made by Musk, he said that “Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bulls**t. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month”.
Twitter’s new CEO announced that the whole verification process is currently being revamped. Additionally, there will also be several perks for subscribers such as:
- Higher priority in replies, mentions and searches.
- Ability to post long video & audio.
- Half the amount of ads
Verified users under Twitter’s current plan will have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmark. “This will also give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators,” added Musk.
He also addressed a New York Times report that claimed he was planning to lay off several Twitter workers before November 1 to avoid having to make payouts. “This is false,” tweeted Musk in response to a Twitter user asking about the claims.
