East Meets West: Pestle & Mortar Clothing Collabs With LA Streetwear Label Chinatown Market
Malaysia’s go-to streetwear brand Pestle & Mortar Clothing has collaborated with a diverse range of brands including KFC, Ultraman, Air Asia, Milo and Looney Tunes.
Despite the global pandemic, PMC is delivering its biggest collaboration of the year with Los Angeles streetwear label, Chinatown Market, capitalising on the concept of ‘East meets West’.
“Tourists from the West often buy cheesy souvenir tees when they visit Southeast Asian countries so we took that as an inspiration to showcase something familiar while sharing Southeast Asian culture at the same time,” said Hugh Koh, Co-Founder and Chief Vision Officer at PMC.
Among the iconic pieces from the drop, apart from a unique wooden pestle and mortar, is the “Teh Tarik Pong” graphic that represents the popular American Frat party game while sobering it up with a glass of teh tarik.
There’s also the “Sweet Memories Tee” that brings every Malaysian back to their childhood with the nostalgic ice cream roti, and “Crappy Souvenir Tee” that takes a jab at the beer shirts tourists (mostly omputih) get when they visit Thailand.
PMC also introduces its first-ever UV sensitive print through this collaboration in the “KL UV Tee”, a spin-off from every “I heart (name a city here)” tee you can find in cities across the world.
Under a UV light, the white tee transforms Chinatown Market’s iconic smiley in vibrant red and blue.
Like their previous collaboration, the PMC x Chinatown Market collection will feature an assortment of clothing and accessories which includes hoodies, tees and more.
The PMC x Chinatown Market collaboration will drop on 19 December 2020. Head to pestlemortarclothing.com with worldwide shipping and Sole What Kuala Lumpur.
