There are shows, and then there’s Death Resonance.

The long-running metal and punk showcase returns this 6 December at 3 p.m., bringing another blistering lineup to Bsync Live KL. Now in its 16th year, the event continues to prove why the underground still matters and why the noise never really dies.

Organised by Heretic Deadly Merch and Garudha Records, Death Resonance is known for its tight curation and its refusal to water anything down.

Tickets are RM50 for pre-sale, capped at 300 people, which basically means you either move fast or miss out on the badass lineup, which reads like a crash course in the Malaysian heavy circuit, pulling together the country’s most respected names in punk, metal, and hardcore.

Jemson bring rock in its most honest form. No gimmicks, no overproduction, just two men who know how to command a stage and wring sweat out of a guitar riff. They sound like a reminder that Malaysian rock can still be wild and charismatic.

Naratu are the veterans of metalcore and one of the few bands who’ve stayed consistent through every wave and trend. Their live shows are infamous for a reason. Expect relentless breakdowns and a crowd that forgets gravity exists.

Restraint represent Malaysian hardcore at its most unfiltered. Every set feels like a statement of intent, a burst of pure energy with a conscience. They don’t perform for attention, they perform because they mean it.

Piri Reis bring a different kind of chaos, one laced with emotion and melody. Their brand of screamo/post-hardcore feels both fragile and devastating, the kind that leaves you staring into space when the set ends.

Tricks is the wildcard. They channel the unpredictability of punk and the grime of ’90s grunge, blending it into something that sounds sharp, urgent, and impatient with conformity.

Rumpelskin offer something darker. Their heavy rock carries groove and grit, the kind that seeps into your spine. There’s theatre in their heaviness, but it never feels pretentious.

Lost Control keep things stripped down. Fast, loud, and raw punk that sounds like it came straight out of a garage with bad lighting and good instincts. It’s chaos with character.

Armpunk Sindicate do what punk bands are supposed to do: say what others won’t and play like they’re daring you to keep up. Their sound is political, filthy, and unapologetically Malaysian.

Death Resonance is a checkpoint for the scene, a place where lifers, new kids, and the curious collide under one roof. 16 years on, it still feels alive because it’s never tried to be anything else. It mutates, grows teeth, and keeps coming back louder.
