Crocs Finally Releases Divisive Balenciaga Collab And It’s Pure Makcik Chic
The shoe which launched a thousand memes. When pictures first surfaced online of the ‘Crocs stilettos’, the comments were, unsurprisingly, overwhelmingly negative.
People scorned the footwear as a desperate attempt for the company to remain relevant via shock-value, while some even speculated that the product was just a fake mock-up created by some Jibbitz-loving diehard.
Well wonder no more, as the much talked-about shoe has finally been released, in collaboration with none other than the non-conformist high-fashion outfit Balenciaga.
Initially teased at the recent Balenciaga Spring 2022 showcase, the shoe – dubbed the Crocs Madame – features a 80mm arch heel, and comes in four colours.
Alongside the controversial piece of footwear, the companies also announced a high-top Crocs x Balenciaga Boot, which is sure to attract as much praise as derision. But hey, fashion, right?
To mark the release, they roped in the help of Berlin-based mixed-media artists Kristina Nagel and Anna Uddenberg, who staged and photographed two human-like sculptures donning upcycled Balenciaga garments and the Crocs collab in contorted expressions.
Both sculptures will also be placed in Balenciaga’s Sloan Street store in London and their New York flagship location, as part of their ongoing ‘Art In Store’ project.
The Crocs Madame are retailing for the lower-than-expected price of USD625 (approximately RM2500) while the Crocs Boot is going for USD695 (~RM2800) on their online store and at select Balenciaga locations.
But the question remains, is it really worth it?
