Local Married Couple Who Lost Their Child To Batang Kali Tragedy Visit Rescuers To Express Gratitude
Recently, a married couple who had been victims of the Batang Kali landslide incident and who had lost their child in the catastrophe took the time to meet with their rescuers.
They participated in a brief discussion with the Hulu Selangor District Civil Defense Force members who were among the first to reach the scene of the tragic event, namely Capt. (PA) Hilmi bin Husman, Junior Lieutenant (PA) Mohammad Amin bin Rosdi, and Junior Staff (PA) Mohd Firdaus bin Abd. Samad.
The pair were there, according to a Facebook post on the Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia page, to show their gratitude for the assistance given that day.
“Although they both lost their child in the event, these two nonetheless appreciated the services of all the rescuers who worked together to assist save the victims,” Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia tweeted.
The couple shared a video of their beloved child’s birthday that they had lost, as well as their sorrow at the passing of their only child, during the meeting.
The husband added that he was the first to dial 911 and that it was a heartbreaking time when he realised his wife and child were locked inside the vehicle. He remembered how he could only watch from a distance while rescuers attempted to pull his wife and child from the predicament.
He also recounted how his wife, instead of herself, had given the order for their child to be saved first, and that the rescuers had not had the heart to inform her that her son had already passed away at that point.
Instead, they revealed the truth to her once everything had stabilised.
