Compass Box Reimagines Its Core Collection and We Got a Taste at the Launch in Malaysia

Compass Box, the misfit whiskymakers known for pushing the boundaries of blended Scotch, are back!

Their reimagined core collection that just landed in Malaysia is more than just a product drop. Teaming up with The Good Stuff, they hosted a tasting at Kedai Minuman Keras Orang Baik at The Gasket Alley, Petaling Jaya—and we were lucky enough to be there.

The New Guys

The new launch introduces two exciting whiskies, Nectarosity and Crimson Casks, which join long-time Compass Box favourites The Peat Monster and Orchard House to form a bold, thoughtfully crafted core range.

As Léo Korenbaum, Asia-Pacific Manager at Compass Box, shared, “Compass Box is a very special brand. For 25 years, we’ve set a new standard for transparency and taste in high-end blended whiskies. To relaunch the brand in Malaysia, we needed equally passionate partners. With The Good Stuff, we are confident that we’ve found a team capable of bringing our message to the local whisky community: to make Scotch whisky a more interesting place.”

And make it interesting, they certainly did.

The atmosphere at Kedai Minuman Keras Orang Baik was buzzing—a perfect blend of whisky aficionados, media, and curious newcomers—all eager to dive into Compass Box’s reimagined world of flavour. Glasses clinked, tasting notes were exchanged, but here’s what we really thought of the whiskies…

Orchard House

Taste and Character: Fresh, fruity, and easy-going. Crisp apple and pear notes take the lead, with a light spirit-forward character that feels refreshing rather than heavy.

Great for casual sipping or pairing with light meals like roasted chicken, seafood, or a simple cheese platter.

Nectarosity

Taste and Character: This was like walking into a luxurious bakery—indulgent notes of vanilla, honey, coconut, and caramel, wrapped up in a silky mouthfeel. A lot of sweetness, but balanced and not cloying.

Perfect with desserts—think crème brûlée, butter cookies, or even a slice of cheesecake.

The Peat Monster

Taste and Character: True to its legendary status, The Peat Monster is smoky but surprisingly refined. It balances earthy peat with a rich sweetness underneath—like bonfire smoke and toffee having a conversation.

Goes well with charred meats, smoked duck, blue cheese, or if you’re adventurous, spicy Malaysian dishes like sambal grilled fish.

Crimson Casks

Taste and Character: Deep, rich, and decadent. The Oloroso sherry influence shines with notes of sweet spice, dark fruits, and a bold winey intensity. It has an enticing spicy finish that lingers beautifully.

Best with dark chocolate, rich beef stews, or even fruitcake if you’re so inclined.
