CLOT & adidas Channel Kung Fu for the Year of the Horse

Hong Kong-based streetwear brand CLOT, helmed by Edison Chen, has teamed up with adidas for a special Lunar New Year collaboration that feels extremely fitting for the Year of the Horse.

The new collection, which will be hitting stores soon, leans hard into symbolism and craftsmanship, blending Eastern tradition with Western sportswear design language.

Galloping into the Year of the Horse

The presiding theme of the collection is obviously the horse from the Chinese zodiac. It’s synonymous with vitality, freedom, and forward motion. Those concepts are artfully infused into two standout footwear offerings.

The first of which is the CLOT x adidas Superstar Dress, which might be familiar to you as a silhouette that blurs the line between sneaker and formalwear. For this collection, the shoes sport cowhide uppers that feature stamped horse-inspired prints along the sides for texture and depth.

Leather dominates everything else, including the lining, midsole, tassels, and yes, even the signature Superstar shell toe. Topping it all off are cotton laces tipped with folden aglets, as well as stitched Three Stripes branding.

But the standout in this writer’s opinion is the Qi Flow, a shoe silhouette that definitely gives Kung Fu energy, both in terms of appearance and functionality. It features a lightweight nylon upper contrasted with a satin collar. Adding a distinctly Chinese sensibility are pearl accents and traditional frog button closures.

The silhouette manages to look calm and composed, yet it’s extremely intentional in its design, featuring an espadrille-style outsole to keep the whole look grounded.

Kung Fu cues are also apparent in the collection’s apparel

In signature Edison Chen style, we see a clear blend of east-meets-west design. In this case, the CLOT Track Jacket features a 100% cotton twill construction with a Mandarin collar, along with frog button fastenings and rope-detailed Three Stripes. If you want to complete the look, you can also get the matching Beckenbauer Track Pant, which adds herringbone elastic stirrups and a custom Lunar New Year woven label.

Completing the apparel range is the CLOT Jacket, structured with a quilted crinkle nylon shell and insulated with PrimaLoft Gold Synthetic Fill Down. Not exactly tailored for Malaysian weather, but definitely something that will keep you nice and toasty in cooler climates.

Though not specifically highlighted in the collection’s product description, there’s also a white T-shirt with a crewneck opening lined in vibrant red, along with bold black script in the back that features a radiant Yin and Yang symbol.
