VIDEO: CEO’s ‘WHOREHOUSE’
Is there a whole subculture of people who listen exclusively to just Swedish pop? JUICE is admittedly ignorant of the alternative pop scene in these Nordic, Scandinavian countries, but we’ve inadvertently had our ears opened to their music too often now. Enough to know the best unadulterated and creative pop come from them (see anyone from Robyn to Lykke Li to Icona Pop).
Eric Berglund of the defunct Tough Alliance, whom we knew nothing about, recently released a nebulous decree that’s basically one run-on sentence to accompany the announcement that his current incarnation, CEO, will be releasing a sophomore album named WONDERLAND. This came with a streamable opening track from the record, ‘WHOREHOUSE’, which despite the name makes for quite a saccharine dance pop tune (references to being lost inside a brothel aside). The synths are sharp and playful, the vocals fluctuate in pitch to infantile level, and the chorus reeks of innocence – why the hell is this called ‘WHOREHOUSE’, again?
