The Lost Tapes is a 3-CD compilation of unused materials spanning every single one of Krautrockers Can’s incarnations. Word has it they cut down from 30 hours’ worth of music to compile this release, which makes its just-good-enough quality a bit of a shame.

There are some genuinely brilliant moments though, had they did twice the distillation and condense the unreleased music to just 1 CD, The Lost Tapes could have been another Can classic. ‘Barnacles’ and ‘Graublau’ sound vintage ‘70s rock; quintessentially Can. As it is though, The Lost Tapes is the kind of overbearing record that you have to really plough through to find brilliance.
