Bobby’s Burgers is coming to town, calling The Exchange TRX its soon-to-be first home outside Indonesia.

The Jakarta-based upmarket smash burger chain is run by Indonesian content creator Ben Sumadiwiria (@supercoolben on Instagram and YouTube), more popularly known as ‘Bobby Saputra’; the son of the richest man in Indonesia.

Of course, if you’re not in the know, Bobby Saputra is a satirical character who spends lavishly and prides himself in being a “professional son”, doling out “China Points” to anyone and anything that suits his exhorbitant lifestyle.

Branching out to Malaysia

Bobby’s Burgers already has a steadily growing presence in Indonesia, with three outlets in Jakarta and another opening soon in Surabaya.

The chain prides itself in offering luxe burgers crafted with wagyu beef, along with fries made with 100% beef tallow, encouraging patrons to “eat like a billionaire”.

Every now and then, Bobby’s Burgers also works on special collaborative items using extra-luxe ingredients like caviar and foie gras, for example. Definitely not your normal smash burger, but something that might pique your interest if you like eating rich (haha) and decadent foods.

According to a post by KL Foodie, Bobby’s Burgers at The Exchange TRX is set to open in March of this year at the Concourse Level, finally bringing the “billionaire” fast-dining experience to Malaysians.

Whether it’ll be a success or not remains to be seen, considering the vast number of local smash burger options readily available.

From humble cooking videos to becoming a “billionaire’s son”

Ben Sumadiwria has come quite a long way since his days making cooking videos on YouTube, with the oldest one dating all the way back to June 2014. Trained by Le Cordon Blue, Sumadiwria is no stranger to the kitchen and getting his hands dirty.

If you take just a quick gander at his older videos, it’s pretty clear that he’s passionate about food in all its forms. The videos that resonated with this writer is his Indomie series, which definitely helped me elevate what would otherwise be many struggle meals back in university.

In fact, he’s even cooked for celebrities, including Adele and Akon, showing how versatile he can be.

He eventually branched out to food-related travel videos and general vlogs before adopting his new Bobby Saputra persona almost two years ago, which might seem like a sharp turn if you’re used to seeing him walk you through a wholesome cooking recipe.

Still, his hyperbolic performance of a rich kid has definitely won over many hearts for its comedic value, with people calling Bobby Saputra the perfect caricature of an obscenely rich Asian man with no sense of work ethic other than being the son of the richest man in Indonesia.

To Bobby Saputra’s credit, he doesn’t hide the fact that all his gains come from Daddy’s money. That’s very humble of him. 100 China Points.
