A massive unforeseen blackout, which came during the heavy rain, has reportedly struck several parts of the Klang Valley, leaving many areas without power.

Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Bangi, Selayang, Cheras, and Bandar Sunway were also affected, as reported by FMT.

There have also been indications of blackouts in other parts of Pahang, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, and Penang, and even the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and KLIA2, as well as many public healthcare facilities.

Blackouts in Kuantan, Seremban, Manjung, Ipoh, Nilai, and Sungai Petani prompted outrage on social media.

Many people were concerned about the unprecedented event and wondered if the power cut affected the entire country.  On Twitter, citizens published posts reporting the situations in public areas including malls where the lifts and escalators appeared to be jammed.

A recent update saw a netizen claiming that the source came from a tripped line in Johor and TNB staff have already been tasked to restore the power. Nevertheless, this statement has not been confirmed by TNB.

An hour in, before TNB released a public statement regarding the matter, Aide to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Takiyuddin Hassan told the public that the sudden power outage was being probed and that an update would be issued to the public soon.

Netizens, in the meantime, seized the opportunity to share memes, jokes and satirical assumptions on Twitter:

That last one is a tweet you can almost hear.

Subsequently, TNB addressed the matter via Twitter as well, halting the social media outrage with an apology and assurance that they were working towards recovering the power supply in all compromised areas:

Hang in there, everyone!
