PUBLIKA’S BEST KEPT SECRET
There’s never been a name more apt for a bar than Barfly’s. Conceived with the intention to serve reasonably priced beer and liquor, it’s not a surprise that the bar is swarmed by, well, barflies. You’d think a venue that specialises in cheap drinks would be a tad on the dodgy side, but Barfly is actually swankier than your preconceived expectation of it. With a rustic concept that focuses on recycled materials, almost most of its décor is reused items; the bar top and tables are made from recycled wood and an old zinc roof is used for the back of the bar. What really caught our eye was the 3000 LED-equipped used bottles hanging above the pool table, it’s a simple, clichéd concept, yet it just works in the context of Barfly. Recently they’ve expanded their space with a private room hidden behind its walls. Called ‘The Barfly Lounge’, the space is cosier than the exterior with its sofa seating and own sound system. So hey, if you ever felt like you needed a private party, bring your own DJ and turn that sh!t up.

CLIENTELE Working professionals from around the area, college kids, and the various hipsters roaming Publika doing absolutely nothing.

DRINKS We think we might regret mentioning this, but we don’t want to be selfish and have Barfly all to ourselves. Serving some of the most reasonably priced beers and liquors, a pint of Tiger is only RM10nett, and both Guinness and Kilkenny are only RM13nett. Same goes for bottled beer; Strongbow at RM12, Somersby at RM14, Paulaner at RM15, and Corona at RM16. Black and Chivas are RM240nett. Try out their Barfly Specials too; ‘The Barfly Monstar’ and ‘Atomic Bomb’.

HAPPY HOUR What happy hours? The drinks are already priced at happy hour rates all day long!

EATS About 4 mains and up to 10 finger foods. Think bar staples like burger and local favs like Maggi and Nasi Goreng.

MUSIC POLICY R’n’b, hip hop, house and trance mostly.

DRESS CODE As laidback as it can get, however you can’t enter the lounge in slippers and shorts.

PARKING Publika’s parking lot is labyrinthine, and it’s a bitch on weekdays during working hours. It should be fine after 6 though. Standard mall parking rate.
