Watching television and tuning into channels such as Disney, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon was no doubt a pastime that everyone remembers before streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime took over the screens. In fact, Disney is so popular that it even has its very own streaming platform called Disney +.

Now, every kid that grew up watching Hannah Montana, That’s So Raven and other memorable Disney shows have to bid farewell to the channel that shaped our childhood as it will be out of service soon. This includes Disney XD, Disney Junior and Disney Channel.

Disney Channel has come a long way in the network. It was first launched in the 2000s and initially only came with one video feed and two audio tracks in English and Mandarin. The channel also only aired in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and the Philippines after two more years of launch on June 1, 2002.

Besides that, most of the original shows were aimed at teenagers aged 10 to 16 years, whereas Disney Junior program is targeted at children aged 3 to 9 years.

With Disney Plus now only being made available in Indonesia. Executive Director of Content and Creative for Disney +, Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar will be responsible for developing and publishing the original program including the acquisition of Disney + content.

So it’s most likely Disney + will soon be present in Malaysia as users will switch into a new way of discovering Disney. But ’till then, we would like to thank Disney Channel for giving us such sweet memories and life lessons from their shows that inevitably helped shaped us into the people we are today.
