Âme: Live
DETROIT TECH BY WAY OF GERMANY
German duo Âme – Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann – is unabashedly indebted to Detroit’s techno god Carl Craig. Yet their sound is just distinctive enough due to regional difference, there is just no avoiding sounding foreign when you’re making music influenced by another place. In some ways, new album Live succeeds, but it is also an opportunity not fully met.
Even though spanning 80 minutes, the 14 tracks are never allowed to stretch to meditative nor anthemic lengths. Funnily enough, as intimidating the track lengths are on this to the uninitiated, existing fans would know that some of them average 9 minutes long in their original forms. Thinking about it, some fans might actually like that the tracks are shortened.
