After JUICE: Post Decadence
STEPHANIE GOH
Former Art Director
Fondest memory of JUICE
Doing a shoot with the whole JUICE family for one of our anniversary parties. Muna Noor in a lion suit.
Expectations & reality
Expectations: having a super cool job. Reality: having a super cool job… but with quite a few late nights / weekends (and hangovers) at the office.
Post JUICE
I’ve moved to Sydney since I left JUICE, but I’m still working in publishing as an Art Director. Also blogging at absolutely-fuzzy.com.
What you took from your experience at JUICE to this day
Work hard, play hard! And that if you’re passionate about what you do it never really feels like a job.

Fondest memory of JUICE
I don’t remember. But according to the photos ex-editor April Kuan still keeps, it means I can never run for politics. Oh wait, there was also that time I got Fabrizio Morietti to sing ‘Karma Chameleon’ for me. That was nice.
Expectations & reality
I knew I would meet all types of amazing, creative people from different walks of life in the industry, but I didn’t think I’d still be friends with a lot of them nine years on. These guys have seen me at my happiest and at my worst.
Post JUICE
Spreading more love and growth to humanity by executing crazy ideas at Mindvalley with the crazy Vishen Lakhiani, who constantly keeps me on my toes.

Always have fun digging and researching for more juice – initiative goes a long way. There will always be another party that you absolutely have to go to, so you don’t have to go to it all. Taking it easy is probably the best stance when you’re working in the media. Also – Google is god pretending to be a search engine.
ALIF OMAR MAHFIX
Former Intern (now AOM)
Fondest memory of JUICE
The first time I went to a rave was Recharge Revelation in Melaka. That was 2007 (I was a late bloomer)… that was also the first time I witnessed female mud wrestling in real life – it wasn’t as arousing as it would have been on pre-HD television. Probably because the stank of the mud was that much more tangible when the sludge of Earth defiled by debauchery was splashed on your face unwillingly. Oh, I interviewed Kat Von D during my first week, which was something.
Expectations & Reality
I expected nothing and thus received nada – a philosophical quandary solved.
Post JUICE
What post JUICE? After getting a completely ineffectual degree cert, I bummed for a year, and now I’m back as a full-timer… JUICE is like Hotel California, apparently. That, or a well-endowed black man/woman/combination thereof.

Do whatever the f*ck you want, but bow down and let yourself be sullied once in a while. It’s called having a job.
Jokes aside, trust your instincts, feature local acts that you actually believe in, and if your magazine sells itself as being irreverent, then stand before self-anointed scene deities and give them the middle finger.
