The Future is Now, Future Music Festival Asia Comes to KL!
The last time Malaysia saw a promising outdoor music festival, it ended disastrously with renowned international acts shamed by the immigration due to poor management. So when we heard a little bird whispering of some kind of music fest coming here, we were a little unconvinced. But then the name Livescape Asia, public-voted JUICE Best Organiser 2011, was thrown into the rumour mill. Then came the rumblings of it being an Asian offshoot of Australia’s long-running fest – Future Music Festival. A little later and we heard a little bird telling us Chemical Brothers might be playing. By the time this was confirmed, we were already having a collective music nerd orgasm. With recent music events such as Rockaway and ESCAPE: NYE under their belt, Livescape has proven itself as a force to be reckoned with. And in the years Future Music Festival had been running in their home country, it had seen acts the likes of The Prodigy, MGMT, Fatboy Slim, Swedish House Mafia, Paul Van Dyk, Dizzee Rascal, and the more. These two entities coalescing could only mean a goddamn epic festival! Suddenly we’re not so envious of our brethren across the causeway anymore…

The Oz-bred Future Music Festival is in its sixth year in home territory Australia, already a known name to Australian punters as the go-to summer music festival since 2006. Not resting on their laurels, organiser Future Entertainment, in a joint effort with Livescape Asia, sees fit to expand FMF beyond the land down under with Future Music Festival Asia in Malaysia, the first of its kind in this region. Maybe it’s a bit too early to claim this, but we dare say this is a worthy addition to Malaysia’s ever growing list of internationally recognised events like Moto GP, Rainforest World Music Festival, and F1 Grand Prix. The last of which is expected to be huge, what not with the festival taking place in Sepang International Circuit and opening for the F1 Grand Prix week.
The inaugural Future Music Festival Asia promises to replicate the experience of its Australian counterpart, offering a whopping 4 stages along with installations and other mini stages to fill in the void in between the 4 main ones.
Catering to different taste buds, Future Music Festival Asia offers an insane lineup of 20 international acts, 12 regional acts, and 13 local acts – making up a genre smorgasbord of 45 acts in total!
With a gargantuan lineup of diverse acts from all over the genre spectrum, Future Music Festival Asia is set to give Malaysians a taste of what has been missing for some time, a proper festival experience that would give others in the region a run for their money. Time to get pumped up, kids!
Future Music Festival Asia is happening on Saturday 17 March at Sepang International Circuit. Log on to www.futuremusicfestival.asia or tune in here to keep yourself updated with the latest FMFA info. Find the list of acts on the next 3 pages.
