Amapiano has officially left the group chat.

What started in South Africa has become a global dancefloor staple, with its rolling log drums, soulful melodies, and laid-back grooves making their way from Johannesburg to London and now Kuala Lumpur.

On 30 August, South African Amapiano heavyweight Tyler ICU is touching down at SENSE 3 KL for a Merdeka Eve takeover. If you’ve spent the last few years with ‘Mnike’ somewhere in your rotation, consider this your cue to show up.

You definitely know the songs.

The South African producer is one of the names behind ‘Mnike’ and ‘Manzi Nte’, two Amapiano smash hits that went from South African dancefloors to global streaming playlists, TikTok feeds, and basically every party where someone knows how to dance.

But reducing Tyler ICU to these viral hits would be doing him a disservice. His catalogue moves across the Amapiano spectrum, from smoother, jazz-inflected cuts to harder, bass-heavy productions packed with the genre’s signature log drums.

In other words, expect more than just the songs that got you here.

There’s something about Amapiano that makes it almost impossible to stand still, which feels pretty appropriate for the night before Merdeka.

With 31 August being a public holiday, there’s no need to pretend you have somewhere to be the next morning. SENSE 3 KL is giving the usual Merdeka Eve formula a switch-up, bringing South African dance culture to the centre of the party instead.

Expect heavy bass, infectious rhythms, and a crowd that came prepared to dance rather than spend the whole night posing for the camera.
