Just when you thought Malaysia had reached peak beverage innovation, a mamak in Shah Alam decided that three layers simply weren’t enough.

Enter the Kopi Kari 5 Layer, a gloriously unhinged creation from Restoran Aman Maju in Seksyen 1 that takes inspiration from the beloved three-layer tea, but cranks the chaos dial all the way up.

And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Here’s the full preparation video:

The drink starts with a base of gula Melaka syrup and ice before being layered with evaporated milk, a generous serving of kari kambing (lamb curry), and black coffee.

The towering concoction is then finished with milk foam, a dusting of curry powder, a curry leaf, and because subtlety clearly left the building long ago, a piece of ladyfinger perched on the side as garnish.

Oh, and there’s also crushed papadom sitting on top for good measure.

We’re not entirely sure whether this belongs on a breakfast menu, a lunch menu, or a dare challenge, but credit where it’s due. The drink has already caught plenty of attention online for being one of the most uniquely Malaysian beverage combinations we’ve seen in a while.

Sweet, savoury, spicy, creamy, bitter, crunchy, and caffeinated all in a single glass? That’s certainly one way to cover every flavour profile.

As for what it actually tastes like? Well, you’ll have to find that out for yourself…
