Kuala Lumpur’s fiercely independent alt-rock trio The Baby Cosmos are set to do more than just share new music.
On 16 August 2025, they’ll launch their sophomore EP The Human Condition with a raw, stripped-back show at Live Fact in Kota Damansara.
Beyond your average gig, this night is a tribute to what staying truly independent can look like in a scene where “indie” often feels more like branding than belief. Timothy George on vocals and rhythm guitar, Darrel Jacques on lead guitar, and Joseph Khoo on bass have built their following through sheer stubbornness and heart. Late-night rehearsals, home-recorded demos, and WhatsApp file swaps have carried them to this moment.
Set to release on 8 August, The Human Condition is a four-track EP that drifts between love, disillusionment and those awkward, beautiful, growing pains. Longtime fans will recognise ‘Reset and Rewind’ and ‘I’ll Be Fine’, now joined by two new tracks. ‘Dream in Colour’ was sparked by a fleeting Instagram moment with Midnight Fusic’s ‘Modus Operandi’ and carries a streak of Filipino rock influence. Then there’s ‘Strangers’, a gently raw song about the first pull of attraction before it ever becomes something heavier.

What makes this release feel special isn’t just the songs…
It’s the way they were made. From recording vocals in closet booths to taming bass feedback with plastic chairs, The Baby Cosmos have always found ways to create music that feels lived-in and honest. Even their earliest demos, shared in lockdown, had the same scrappy, restless energy that runs through this EP.
This launch show is as much about the band’s journey as it is about the music. It’s an invitation to the community that has stuck with them from the first rough demo to the final chorus.
Joining them on stage that night are Dukes, KL’s indie sweethearts with their slick Britpop sparkle and modern edge, and The Fridays, who bring jangly guitars and bittersweet melodies that wouldn’t feel out of place on an old Smiths record… Only reimagined somewhere in the Klang Valley.
