Proton has just pulled the covers off the all-new X50, and it’s a proper statement piece for 2025.

Since hitting Malaysian roads for the first time back in 2020, the X50 has been a real game-changer with regard to the local automotive market. Now, with over 134,000 units sold and five years as the B-segment SUV champ, the all-new Proton X50 is back, and it’s better than ever.

A bold new look keeps everything fresh

Starting on the outside, and perhaps the most immediately noticeable difference: the X50 looks sharper, bolder, and more confident.

A redesigned front grille and bumper give it a meaner, more aggressive stance, while the sportier rear spoiler and quad exhaust tailpipes bring out a more dynamic side to the compact SUV.

The alloy wheels have been given a textured makeover, and a new Teal Bayou Green colour joins the line-up alongside fan favourites like Jet Grey and Passion Red.

The upgrades get just as exciting on the inside too. You’ve got a new floating floor console, premium soft-touch materials, luxury-style column shifters, and a 72-colour ambient lighting system that lets you set the mood for every kind of drive.

Where the new X50 really stands out, though, is its brains. The centrepiece is a whopping 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, now with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

But the real kicker comes in the form of Voice Command in Bahasa Malaysia, which finally gives us a smart system that speaks our language.

You’ll also get to enjoy added convenience with remote engine and AC activation, live vehicle status, and even service appointment scheduling—all from your phone via the PROTON Link 2.0 app.

This is pretty cool for those of us who constantly use our phones for everything.

Enhanced safety and performance that you can feel

Proton didn’t hold back on the safety front. The all-new X50 now features upgraded Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), which includes new tech like a Rear Side Radar System and improved Auto Park Assist.

A 360-degree HD camera, plus a 180-degree transparent view of the undercarriage, makes parking and navigating tight spaces around your favourite kopitiam a breeze. Plus, the car still proudly wears its 5-star ASEAN NCAP badge.

When it comes to performance, the all-new X50 has a lot more bite than before. Under the bonnet is a new i-GT 1.5 TD engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering 133kW of power and 290Nm of torque.

That means 0-100km/h in just 7.6 seconds—slightly quicker than its predecessor—while also being 4.7% more fuel efficient.

It grows with you

Whether you’re a first-time buyer, a young professional looking for a stylish and smart ride, or a small family in need of something practical yet tech-savvy, the all-new X50 definitely fits the bill.

It’s Proton’s most polished and progressive SUV to date, and more importantly, it feels like a car made for Malaysians.
