Dyson’s OnTrac Headphones Are Like Airwraps for Your Ears

You might know Dyson as the British brand that turns vacuum cleaners into high-tech status symbols. But you might be surprised to know that the brand quietly released their first-ever set of audio-only headphones last year, the OnTrac.

A year since its debut, the Dyson OnTrac headphones are proving that the company’s obsession with airflow and engineering isn’t just for sucking up dust or giving your hair that salon-worthy bounce. Now, it’s about listening—with precision, polish, and a little bit of style.

Not your average noise-cancelling cans

The OnTrac headphones are a masterclass in build quality, wrapped in soft microfibre and high-grade foam that feels more like a memory foam pillow than anything that should sit on your head.

The ear cups are mounted on multi-pivot gimbal arms, which sounds fancy because it is. They hug your head without clamping it like a vice grip—a rare balance of comfort and security.

Even the battery gets the Dyson treatment. Rather than stuffing it in the ear cups like most brands, Dyson’s engineers suspended two high-capacity lithium-ion cells inside the headband. The result? A perfectly balanced fit—like a good cup of coffee first thing in the morning.

And much like a cup of coffee, the Dyson OnTrac will be able to get you through the day (and more) with 55 hours of battery life on a single charge (with active noise cancellation turned on).

“Dyson’s audio engineering mission is to preserve the integrity of the artist’s sound wave, free from interference,” says Jake Dyson, son of company founder, James Dyson. “We also wanted to create a set of headphones that people would cherish, be excited by, and be proud of.”

That mission supposedly shows in the sound. The 40mm neodymium drivers deliver everything from trembling sub-bass to shimmering highs. Your music doesn’t just sound good—it sounds like it’s been filtered through a Dyson cyclone chamber that cleaned up every last impurity.

And while there’s no vacuum motor onboard (yet), the Active Noise Cancellation system might as well be. With eight microphones sampling noise 384,000 times a second, these headphones cancel out up to 40dB of external chaos.

If you need to pause the music mid-thought, just take the headphones off. The OnTrac’s capacitive sensors pause your audio instantly and resume when you put them back on. There’s also a tiny joystick on the side that lets you play, pause, skip, fast forward, or hold for voice control. It’s like a tiny Dyson Ball, but for tunes.

Then, of course, there’s the style. Dyson lets you flex with over 2,000 possible colour combinations for outer caps and cushions. Want CNC aluminium with cinnabar cushions? Go wild. Prefer a muted nickel with black suede pads? They’ve got you.

Every pair is built from premium materials: anodised aluminium caps, soft micro-suede ear cushions, and finishes that feel like they belong in a gallery.

And if you use the OnTrac in tandem with the MyDyson app, you can track your listening habits and be alerted to potentially harmful volume levels. Because what’s the point of all this beautiful sound if it ends up wrecking your hearing?

At RM2,699, the Dyson OnTrac isn’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination. But then again, neither are Dyson’s vacuums—and people love those like they love their pets.

So, whether you’re a design nerd or just someone who wants headphones that feel like a Dyson Airwrap for your ears, the OnTrac might just suck you in.
