G-SHOCK, as a brand, has seen a steady evolution over the past few decades—from the tough-as-nails squares of the ’80s to sleek, tech-laced beasts in recent years.

But its upcoming GA-V01 isn’t just a watch. It’s a statement. A wild, unapologetically futuristic piece that looks like it rolled off the wrist of a cyberpunk astronaut—straight out of the year 3000.

Bold new looks, same old soul

Unlike most G-SHOCKs (yes, even the bigger ones), the GA-V01 doesn’t quietly sit on your wrist—it takes over.

The design is all sharp lines, oversized dial, and angular boldness, but somehow it still manages to feel cohesive. There’s a seamless integration between the strap and the case, like the whole thing was sculpted out of a single chunk of tech-metal.

And then there’s the face—a layered, multi-dimensional display that fuses analogue and digital in this glorious mashup of retro mechanics and sci-fi dreams. G-SHOCK calls this their Y3K aesthetic, and we can definitely see why.

You’ve got butterfly-shaped dial accents, circular magnetic hands, and exposed hour markers that give off strong “out-of-this-world expedition gear” vibes. It’s got that kind of design that stops people mid-sentence and makes them go, “Wait, is that a G-SHOCK?”

But this isn’t just about looking cool (though it definitely does that). The GA-V01 is still every bit the rugged powerhouse you’d expect from G-SHOCK.

It was born from the same spirit that started the brand back in 1983—when Mr. Kikuo Ibe tossed the first prototype out of a lab window to see if it would survive. And now, decades later, that “Never Give Up” spirit still lives on in this new model.

Fully loaded with tech

The GA-V01 brings some serious tech to the table too. The hands aren’t fixed in the traditional way—they’re magnetically held. That means they can absorb shock more efficiently, making this beast even tougher.

And because they’re not bound by typical mechanics, the hands can be made bigger and bolder without compromising durability.

Functionally, you’ve got all the creature comforts and features one would normally expect from a G-SHOCK: World time, countdown timer, stopwatch, multiple alarms, dual LED lights with customisable brightness and fade, and an impressive 10-year battery life.

All that wrapped in a 200m water-resistant shell that’ll survive everything from a surf session to a hard face-plant at the skatepark.

You’ve also got a mixture of loud and subtle colour options: Classic matte black (always a safe bet), neon blue and yellow for that highlighter sheen, and a gleaming silver metallic that’s giving futuristic pilot core.

This writer is personally eyeing the silver metallic. It just looks so sleek.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s okay

The outlandish and quirky looks of the GA-V01 might not be everyone’s preference, but it certainly feels like the next big chapter in the G-SHOCK legacy.

It respects where the brand came from—toughness, innovation, no-compromise durability—but it’s also not afraid to go weird, wild, and radically forward.

No official release date or price for Southeast Asia has been announced yet, but we can expect the GA-V01 to land on Malaysian soil sometime in mid-June this year.
