If you’re into cars even a little bit, you’ll know the BMW 3 Series. It’s just about as common on our Malaysian roads as other similar offerings. But that doesn’t make it boring—not in the slightest bit.
This year, the BMW 3 Series hits a big milestone: 50 years. Half a century of tight handling, sleek design, and being the poster child for driving pleasure.
To mark the occasion, BMW Malaysia is throwing a birthday bash in the most BMW way possible—by launching a super-exclusive, very slick version of the car that started it all: the BMW M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre.
Only 50 units will be available, and they’re all going straight to the digital showroom at shop.bmw.com.my. First come, first serve.
A long legacy, even in Malaysia

The 3 Series first hit the roads in 1975, and ever since then, it’s been setting the benchmark for sporty sedans around the world.
From the clean lines of the original E21 to the bold flair of the E30 (hello, first-ever M3), and the sharp styling of today’s G20, each generation has been a snapshot of what BMW was all about at the time—performance, style, and just enough rebellion.

In Malaysia, the 3 Series is more than just a premium sedan. It’s part of our car culture. Whether it’s blasting through corners in Genting or cruising through city traffic with that unmistakable kidney grille leading the way, the 3 has always been the car for folks who love driving, but still want something practical.
And with the 50 Jahre Edition (“Jahre” is German for “Years”), BMW didn’t hold back. The M340i xDrive Edition 50 Jahre isn’t just a regular 3 Series with a new badge. It’s loaded.
On the outside, it gets the kind of styling extras that make car people do a double-take. We’re talking exclusive M Performance bits like side skirt extensions, a rear spoiler, and some slick carbon fibre details.

There’s even a special 50 Jahre badge tucked into the cup holder and engraved on the b-pillar—subtle, but cool.
Inside, you’re greeted with Alcantara touches and a centre armrest that feels more like something from a concept car than a production model. Add in active cruise control, parking assist, and a fancy new instrument panel, and you’ve got a cabin that’s every bit as refined as it is sporty.

And yes—this one’s all-wheel drive, which means you’ll have grip for days, whether you’re dealing with a downpour or just putting the power down on a weekend blast.
Only 50 cars, all online

BMW’s only making 50 units of this special edition for Malaysia, and you can’t just walk into a showroom and snag one.
You’ve got to go online, pick your colour, select a dealership, and place a RM3,400 booking—all before someone else beats you to it.
It’s BMW’s way of saying thanks to its Malaysian fans while also reminding everyone that the 3 Series isn’t going anywhere. It’s just getting better with age.

But while this 50 Jahre edition is a nod to the past, BMW is very much looking to the future. Their global sales show serious growth in electric models, and the company is still pushing hard to lead in sustainable, premium mobility.
Even as they electrify, digitise, and innovate, cars like the 3 Series remind us what made us fall in love with driving in the first place. So, here’s to 50 years of the BMW 3 Series—and to the next 50. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one of these special editions, consider yourself part of history.

And if not? Well, the legacy lives on every time a 3 Series passes you on the road.
