Indie & Pop Ballad Meets Theatrical Performance In Anna Chong’s Comeback Show

After a seven-year hiatus, Malaysian singer-songwriter Anna Chong is back with her third studio album, A Place Where the Light Shines—a deeply personal reflection on loss, growth, and resilience.

Set to release in 2025, the album sees Anna navigating through some of life’s darkest moments, only to emerge with newfound clarity and appreciation for the light that follows.

“Only in the dark can you truly recognise where the light comes from,” Anna shares, encapsulating the emotional depth of the album. Each track serves as a chapter in her journey, blending folk, ballad, funk, indie, and alternative influences into a rich, multi-genre experience. With meticulous attention to arrangement and mixing, she showcases not only her refined vocal skills but also her evolution as a producer.

A Seremban native, Anna has been a force in Malaysia’s music scene for 18 years, moving between indie and mainstream landscapes. Her previous albums, A Reset of Earth and Tack, both earned critical acclaim, winning Best Indie Album at the Malaysia PWH Music Awards and securing a nomination for Best EP at the AIM Chinese Awards.

To mark the release of A Place Where the Light Shines, Anna will host a full-length concert at Nero Event Space, PJPAC, on 12 April 2025. More than just a performance, the show aims to redefine the artist-audience relationship by merging music, theatre, live visuals, and dance into an immersive audiovisual experience.

“This concert is a manifestation of my inner world,” says Anna. “I want to create a space where the audience can not only witness my journey but also find their own light.”
