After a three-year release hiatus, Malaysian alternative rock band Midnight Fusic is back with a highly anticipated single, ‘Residue‘, released on all major streaming platforms earlier today, 21 February.
This track marks the first glimpse into their upcoming EP, Modus Operandi, slated to drop in May 2025.
The band takes a bold leap in introducing a new sound with early 2000s rock influence
With ‘Residue’, Midnight Fusic introduces a more mature and evolved sound while still holding on to their indie rock roots. Drawing inspiration from the early 2000s rock scene, the track reflects the band’s musical growth and personal experiences over the years.
“This song reflects the growth we’ve experienced over the past few years, both as a band and as individuals. We wanted to pay homage to the music that shaped us while exploring deeper emotions and themes,” shared vocalist Arif Kamarudin.
Lyrically, ‘Residue’ dives deep into the complexities of escapism and the struggle to confront inner demons, resonating with those seeking self-acceptance and resilience.
The chorus delivers a powerful sense of liberation, as if shedding the “residue” of past struggles, yet acknowledging the tension between freedom and the lingering effects of emotional hardships.
The single marks the beginning of a new era and a new EP
With Modus Operandi, the band promises their most ambitious project to date, exploring themes of love, self-reflection, and resilience—solidifying their reputation for delivering authentic, relatable music.
