The prestigious 32nd Seoul Music Awards (SMA) took place on 19 January at the Olympic Park’s Olympic Gymnastic Arena in Seoul, South Korea. Needless to say, K-pop fans the world over were looking forward to the event that had Kim Il Joong, SHINee’s Minho, and Lovelyz’s Mijoo as MCs while stars such as NCT Dream, KARA, (G)I-DLE, IVE, TAN, TNX, and Lapillus, took to the red carpet.

The SMA is held annually to recognise outstanding achievements within the Korean music industry. The winners this year are decided by albums and songs released from January to December 2022 with the criteria of 30% sales, 40% panellists, and 30% online voting, with the exception of the Hallyu Special Award and Popularity Award which are completely chosen based on online voting, and the Discovery of the Year, Special Jury Award, Band Award, and Best Performance which are determined by the panellists’ input.

While the award show was broadcasted on Korea’s local TV, Malaysians got to enjoy the ceremony by watching it LIVE exclusively on the Yippi App! In collaboration with Subaru and Huawei Cloud, it was streamed to over 40,000 viewers.
