K9 Unit’s Sniffer Dog Faints From Exhaustion After Days Looking For Batang Kali Landslide Victims

Three days after disaster struck at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite, the search and rescue (SAR) operation continues their tireless search for survivors of the landslide that has made continuous national headlines.

Along with a large team of authorities, 11 tracking dogs were also ready to help in the hunt, with six of them coming from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), four from the police, and one from the army.

However, eventually, one of these K9 sniffer dogs, an English springer spaniel by the name of Blake, reportedly collapsed from exhaustion during the crucial and harrowing operation.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Datuk Norazam Khamis stated that the canine passed out due to the detection unit working nonstop for two days straight, which goes beyond the allocated time.

“They (detection dogs) too need to relax and recover after working more hours than intended for two days in a row. That’s why at this point, we’ll rotate them, starting with three (dogs) initially, then we’ll employ the others,” he told reporters.

According to the most recent updates, the landslide at Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya on Jalan Genting-Batang Kali resulted in the deaths of 24 people. Sixty-one people made it through the catastrophe, but nine remain missing.

This morning at 9 a.m., the search for the missing victims was resumed.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has pledged to provide each family of the victims who died in the Batang Kali landslide RM10,000 in cash. He also stated that each survivor will receive RM1,000 in compassionate aid.
