37 y/o M’sian Runner At Langkawi Half Marathon Dies After Collapsing Near Finish Line
After collapsing not far from the marathon’s finish line, a 37-year-old runner in the Langkawi International Half Marathon (LIHM) 2022 unexpectedly passed away yesterday while on the way to the hospital.
The deceased was Nik Mohd Faiz Nik Mohd Nazmi, a senior lecturer at the UPM Veterinary Clinical Studies Department.
According to Bernama, the chief of the Langkawi District Police ACP Shariman Ashari stated that the police were informed that Mohd Faiz had died at 10.30 a.m. by the doctor in charge at the emergency room at Sultanah Maliha Hospital.
Shariman also confirmed that preliminary investigations found that Mohd Faiz had collapsed near the finish line and remained unconscious en route to the hospital.
He noted that Medical and Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel first administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation before he was taken to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital.
The deceased’s body will be transported for a post-mortem to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Kedah, according to supplementary information provided by the Langkawi District Police.
The case has been labelled as sudden death.
