17-Year-Old Boy Arrested On Suspicion Of Transporting 25 Undocumented Immigrants Via Toyota Vellfire
A 17-year-old boy was apprehended after being suspected of smuggling in 25 illegal immigrants in Jalan Selinsing using a black Toyota Vellfire multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
The car was spotted being driven suspiciously by a police team across Jalan Manjoi 3, Taman Sri Kuching, at 12.05 p.m. on Tuesday (August 2), according to Sentul district police chief ACP Beh Eng Lai.
When police first commanded him to stop, the teen refused, and the chase finally came to a halt when the MPV skidded and collided into three vehicles as well as a police motorcycle as he attempted to flee.”
“A group of 25 foreigners, 19 men and 6 women aged 15 to 39, were discovered in the car without identification papers,” said Beh in a statement yesterday, as reported by The Sun.
According to him, the investigation revealed that the teenager along with a friend were allegedly transporting the immigrants from Rantau Panjang, Kelantan to Kuala Lumpur for employment purposes; for a fee of RM6,000 each at 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to him, a check revealed that the youngster involved did not attend school, and did not possess a driver’s licence. The car also had a false registration plate.
Beh confirmed that the teen as well as the foreigners would be remanded beginning today to assist with the investigation.
The incident is being probed for impeding a public servant from performing his duties under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Section 186 of the Penal Code.
