If you’re looking to get a new or updated an old MyKad, you must get it done on your own at a National Registration Department (JPN) office near you.

Last week, JPN said that it has never appointed a person or agency to assist the general public in processing registration forms in order to get a MyKad.

According to Utusan, JPN Director Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said that they have received complaints from consumers who were contacted by agents claiming to be able to get MyKads done for them.

Customers, however, would have to pay a hefty fee ranging from RM2,000 to RM5,000 for these agents’ service to get their MyKad done.

“JPN has not appointed any agents to help the public to get MyKad. The public only needs to head to any of the 225 JPN offices including Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) if they want to carry out registration for identification documents or anything related to JPN,” said JPN Director Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.

Datuk Ruslin further recommended anyone who had been fooled by the fraudulent agents to file a police complaint as soon as possible so that the fraud operation could be halted.

“Although the complaint received isn’t much or under a serious category, JPN takes the matter seriously because victims lose a lot of money amounting in thousands,” he added.

Because some of the victims reside in big cities such as Penang, Kuala Lumpur, and Selangor, JPN suspects that the fraudulent agents are not just targeting folks in rural areas but also city dwellers.

The majority of complaints come from persons who are hesitant to interact with JPN for fear of being prosecuted for having children out of wedlock.

Rusli said that JPN would continue to assist them in obtaining the appropriate documentation for children in certain instances, and added that even if they registered late, they would just be penalised.

Furthermore, Rusli stated that JPN has a dedicated team under the Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (Mekar) initiative to assist the people in obtaining their MyKad.

The Mekar team will meet with people and groups such as the seniors, the OKU community, bed-ridden patients, psychiatric patients, and chronically ill patients who want to file for a MyKad but cannot get to JPN.
