M’sian Facebook Group Posting Pictures of Pregnant Women Without Their Consent Gets Shutdown

In today’s episode of “Men Are Trash”, a crackdown on a Malaysian Facebook group called “Koleksi Mak Buyung” found men thirsting over pictures of pregnant women that were uploaded without the owner’s consent.

The posts were usually accompanied by lewd remarks.

One user captioned his upload with “I want to caress her belly until I ejaculate,” while another asked if there were more “candid collectors” and that they should personally message him so he could attain more pictures.

The crackdown was made viral by Ain Husniza, who spearheaded the conversation regarding rape culture in Malaysian schools. She has also been invited to speak at UNICEF for her activism, making her a notable figure when it comes to issues regarding women and their safety in this country.

Ain posted screenshots from the group on her Twitter, emphasising how repulsive the Facebook group is. Here is the tweet in full:

The group had over 5,000 members before it was shut down for violating the platform’s regulations. Most of the pictures uploaded did not censor the women’s faces and were taken without the women’s consent at public places like malls, supermarkets and outdoor places.

A majority of the women were covered head to toe and wore hijabs.

According to a report, some of the men were married with kids and seemed to be pious with pictures of them wearing religious clothing.

There is a disproportionate amount of respect and autonomy given to women in Malaysia and it is further highlighted now through the prevalence of social media.

From invasive period spot checks conducted at schools, the saturation of leaked nudes by malicious exes, to the pending sexual harassment and anti-stalking bill, Malaysian women just can’t seem to catch a break.

Regardless if women in Malaysia don hijabs and purdahs or not, they are still subjected to incessant harassment and encroachment of their privacy.

Lawyer Azira Aziz, who was one of the women who first reported the group, told VICE, “It’s bad enough that Malaysian women deal with sexism and general micro-aggressions every day. Even pregnancy is not sacred.

“Our society’s mindset is not about having accountability and [practising] civic-mindedness to others. So adult men, under the disguise of anonymous [troll] accounts, making sexually explicit comments towards pregnant women is upsetting but not surprising.”

Now, we are awaiting further action towards the six admins of the group in order to ensure that this criminal, derogatory behaviour does not persist and will be met with repercussions and the law.
