WATCH: 10 Cars Damaged By Passing Lorry, Owners Get No Compensation Due To Illegal Parking
We’re all guilty of leaving our cars in illegal spots, whether or not we choose to admit it. C’mon, it’s Malaysia. But how many have actually suffered the consequences?
10 vehicle owners paid the price of this when a lorry crashed and scraped their cars while attempting to squeeze through a narrow road at Complex E, Putrajaya.
The lorry driver has been called to testify at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) and Chief Assistant Commissioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said that the owners have also filed reports.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving recklessly and dangerously, as reported Kosmo.
A video from what looks like CCTV footage shows the lorry pulling into the road and colliding with two parked cars, reversed, then proceeded down the road without halting.
Check out the damage done on all these illegally parked cars too:
The Chief Government Security Office (CGSO) under the Prime Minister’s Department has also confirmed the incident.
It was revealed by CGSO Parcel E that the location of the incident has been listed as an area where vehicles are not allowed to be parked, thus, vehicle owners cannot claim any compensation.
“There is no claim for compensation that can be made by the victim involved as the area or route has been gazetted as an area where parking is not allowed,” he said.
He also mentioned that the police would conduct an operation at the location to prevent drivers from parking their vehicles there and issue summonses to those who do not comply.
Hopefully we’ll all think twice before parking at illegal spots now. Drive safe!
